Beautiful extra large sterling silver antique brooch, with a floral bouquet design tied in a bow, a superb example of antique Austrian sterling silver and marcasite piece of jewelry.
Dating from the 1940s (or before), the pin is marked STERLING, indicating provenance and time period. The Encyclopedia of Silver Marks, the mark shows an Austrian/German provenance, from approximately 1902-1940 when this type of marking has been combined with others. The time span is wide, and the design shows Hollywood Regency and Art Nouveau elements, so...a mystery piece of elegant jewelry.
The brooch stands out by its intricate gracious shape and design, with a large central flower, a side bud, several curving leaves and a bow. All completely covered in sparkling marcasites. Secure closing bar with round safety lock.
