One of a kind semi-antique Moroccan extra large square shawl that can be wrapped around in so many ways (some illustrated in my photos) in muted, elegant taupes and black with some orange accents and gold painted details in the print. Just gorgeous, a conversation piece.
DATE/Age: estimated from the 1930s but in excellent condition with no damage at all.
SIZE: 45" by 47" OR 117cm by 120cm
COLORS: an intricate pattern with small details that blend into the overall exotic effect.
There is a base grid, resembling a honey comb pattern in light beige and muted orange with some gold thread in the weave in places. The entire drama is in the extra wide border print with traditional large paisley in black surrounded by rows of Moroccan traditional motifs in the basic beige/taupe/black color palette with tiny metallic gold brushed accents. The gold accents reflect light like an old fresco.
FABRIC content: being so old there is no fabric tag so I go by experience and estimate a very light wool challis, feels like voile, not at all heavy, almost semi-sheer lightness. The scarf/shawl is entirely hand hemmed at edges.
CONDITION: excellent, near perfect condition. While very old the weave is still very strong and intact and I do not see any threads and pulls. There is an overall slight patina on colors and the gold metallic accents have faded a little, just enough to make the piece extremely interesting.
Perhaps one of the most beautiful antique shawls I have seen, this is an understatedly elegant piece, keeps warm too, and will enhance your dark colors to perfection. Take a look at some of my photos for ideas on how to tie this extra large shawl.
