From my personal collection this ring has been passed down through three generations already.
Dating from around the 1900s, it is created with a very large oval cabochon Russian jade central stone encased securely and beautifully in scalloped sterling silver surrounded by a braided band at the base. The raised mounting is open inside to allow for light to showcase the stone, even though it is not a transparent stone. The sides of the ring have decorative round ring shaped transitions to the band which is thin but intact.
The genuine jade stone is untreated, has lovely inclusions and a generally mottled effect of darker green veins in a milky medium green. Beautiful!
There are some faded markings on the inner band that I can not read.
ART NOUVEAU and Edwardian elements. One of a kind!
SIZE: I estimate it is a size 7, an unusually larger size for the period.
MEASUREMENTS: the central mounted stone measures approximately 7/8" by 5/8".
COMPOSITION: sterling silver, tested and confirmed. Genuine natural dark jade.
WEIGHT: the heavier part of the ring is the stone and the overall weight is just about 4 grams. It looks much more substantial than it is in weight.
CONDITION: perfect condition while remaining a true antique piece. Recently polished slightly leaving just enough patina to maintain its original character. The band itself is thin but sturdy and intact. There were no repairs on this ring and it is in its ORIGINAL SHAPE.
Remarkable piece, really. Ready to be given a new life, a new purpose. This is truly a ring with a history and a ....pedigree:)
