A truly RARE collectible French couture scarf from the house of LANVIN. An authentic, signed, VINTAGE 1950's Pre-Modern "brush stroke" motif, designed by Castillo. Wearable ART! Unique in every way and almost impossible to come by even among collectors.
The history behind the scarf...after Jeanne Lanvin's passing in 1950, the house of LANVIN was resurrected by a then "up and coming" Spanish designer, Antonio Del Castillo who returned the Parisian house to its former glory. He stayed with the Lanvin house from 1950 to 1961, which makes his signed ART pieces very easy to locate in time and extremely valuable!
Castillo's approach to fabric design was an eclectic mix of French motifs in an Andalusian interpretation and most of the time in stark contrast to the delicate femininity of the Lanvin classic designs. This scarf is no exception and it is more indicative of the newly emerging MOD, a pre-mod design, if you will.
Created in a mistyfing combination of deep turqoise/teals, dark moss green and brown on pure white, with bold and vigurous brush strokes, the scarf displays the boldness of Andalusian colour palette and a passionate urgency reminiscent of a late Van Gogh. Quite striking.
A fashion statement and an ART piece this lovely scarf can be worn as a treasured VINTAGE rarity or framed...it certainly rivals ANY modern painting. Created from heavy silk charmeuse, the scarf has an ivory? white background with teals and turqoises, medium and deep moss green and some chocolate (brun, in French) accents. Signed and clearly identified in one corner, care tag present. Plump hand rolled edges.
An authentic 1950's *LANVIN Castillo* Paris
FABRIC: Silk charmeuse (heavy silk).
Colours: as stated above. The colour palette is still quite bright and expressive, some minimal fading of the turqoise which only adds to its unique vintage charm. In spite of the over half a century of "scarf life", this scarf is quite remarkable.
CONDITION: I said it before, REMARKABLE condition considering the age and a possibly long and adventurous life. NO damage, pulls, loose threads, silk is intact and of a quality that will stand the test of time. The signature appears a bit faded (in case it was originally black? or a darker colour) but I don't know if it was that way or not. The last pictures show some very light water marks, not visible unless very closely checked. Will not be seen when worn.
SIZE: 30" by 31" like all couture scarves, never perfectly square.
DO NOT MISS THIS HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE and RARE LANVIN SCARF, it is indeed a one of a kind scarf, motif and period...!
