One of my most interesting neckties in my shop and that I have ever seen, is this authentic and rare (everyone says that about vintage but this tie is indeed very rare, from a Limited Edition) Gianfranco Ferre pure silk silver grey Victorian inspired necktie from the mid 80s. Not just another necktie, this is an exquisite art statement. A perfect gift for a sophisticated man of taste.
Named the "architect of fashion", Ferre, a former artistic director of the House of Dior and creator of his own luxury label was an architect himself but the nickname came from his unusual approach to design. A minimalist and modernist at the heart of his vision, he had at times created designs inspired by long gone fashion periods, famous movies, all with a classic elegance yet with an exotic appeal.
This exquisite necktie, belonging to the 1987 line is one unique example of his creativity. It presents a Victorian, 19th century motif with gas lamps, antique incandescent bulbs and antique glass bottles, similar to lab receptacles. The design is in subtle smokey greys, an interplay of black and white on a silver grey background. A luminosity of a special kind, almost like an antique photograph taken in gas light. The scarf is lined in polkadot charcoal silk with the logo woven in.
GIANFRANCO FERRE, MADE IN ITALY
59" long by 3.5" wide at the widest point
FABRIC CONTENT: 100% soft brushed silk, silk lining
Impeccable condition, from a lot of neckties I personally imported from France, from a private collection.
