Vintage 80s dangling cha cha necklace made from unusually colored AZURITE cha cha necklace, expressive, interesting and absolutely unique. I dare you to find a second one:)
A little bit of trivia on this unique gem. AZURITE, a deep blue deposit stone is usually found in or nearby malachite and turquoise copper deposits. That gives it a mottled, unusual, spotted color, in which the dark blue is mixed with turquoise and greenish veins and some (rare) copper specks.
There is no lore about Azurite even though it has been widely used in artifacts and jewellery since ancient times. Azurite was sacred to the Egyptians who believed it was an aid to spiritual communication.
Many believe that this stone helps to reduce anger and to increase psychic awareness.
Current deposits are found in: Australia, Chile, France, Mexico, Morocco, Namibia, and Zaire.
While not directly identified as a birthstone, it is associated with the sign of Taurus.
********
The design is reminiscent of the famous Cha-Cha necklaces created for the first time between 1920-1940 by Frank Hess for Miriam Haskell.
The necklace is created from teardrop shaped clusters of beads in that mottled turquoise, teal and black color, all hanging on an antiqued gold tone metal chain. Closes in the back with flower shaped sliding closure.
25" long at the longest point, the drop is 12.5" for the longer row of beads.
CONDITION: excellent vintage with no damage to the beads, or anywhere else for that matter, the gold metal part is a little bit tarnished from the passage of time.
This only adds to the vintage charm of this one of a kind indeed necklace.
VERY interesting necklace to say the least. Ready to be given a new life.
