This beautiful Victorian style large cameo bronze bracelet, together with a few other pieces has been salvaged at the dismantling of an old MIRIAM HASKELL jewellery factory in New England. These old pieces appear to be unfinished samples, most are unsigned, some bear the Miriam Haskell logo, they all belong to the same one of a kind lot of custom jewellery and same provenance.
This is one of the pieces in this small lot, a vintage carved jasper? cameo (dating possibly from the 50s or before), with a large medallion cameo in the center, mounted on a hinged cuff bronze wire: the splendor of early Victorian style meets the needs of a modern woman. The large central Wedgewood? cameo in a most unusual color combination, in soft ivory and caramel is mounted on a heavy brushed/textured cast bronze metal, a little bit antiqued. There is a sturdy hinge keeping the two parts of the cuff together, with a safety spring, allows for easy opening and closing of the bracelet. VERY safe.
AGE/MAKER: the piece though finished, does not bare any markings. As mentioned above, it has been salvaged from a jewellery factory in New England. Other pieces I have are signed, this one is not but belonging to the same source, it is safe to attribute it to Miriam Haskell. Priced conservatively, in spite of its continued value.
COLORS: Ethereal ivory on warm, caramel background on a bronze metal cuff.
DIMENSION: 1.5" by 1 3/4" WIDE center stone, with a delicate laced rim, on an 8" circumference bracelet cuff. Large and impressive piece.
MATERIALS:bronze and cameo, the cameo appears to be the classic jasper. Could also be porcelain, I am not sure
CONDITION: slight overall patina, especially on the metal, of course, oxidation more likely but it is overall and gives that unique feel of an antique piece. NO damage, ready to wear. TRULY A REMARKABLE PIECE OF CUSTOM JEWELLERY.

And a Bit of Trivia on the Cameos
A bit of trivia on the timeless and strikingly beautiful CAMEOS...brought back on the forefront of fashion by the recent wave of Victorian/Edwardian inspired garments. These miniature sculptures often portray a representation of the wearer (or they used to) or depict scenes and symbols of ancient mythology. Shrouded in history, the cameo has much to tell, both culturally and historically. Some say there is even a deeper insight in that it may have served as an amulet, warding off unfriendly spirits as well as keeping one healthy, depending on the material used. Cameos are carved in bas-relief of many materials: sardonyx, quartz, shell, coral, resin, glass and lava to mention a few, hand painted and transfers on porcelain.
