This is an authentic early 1940s custom made daydress with remarkable tailoring, reminiscent of Hollywood golden age movie stars' dresses, combining a fluid and lightweight skin color beige flowing fabric with a design that combines elegance and exquiste couture details.
The dress has incredible period details: the little open pointy collar is split in the back. The bodice is elegantly fittedto emphasize the narrow waist, with a dropped kimono sleeve and closes in front with fabric covered buttons. The amazing part of the dress is the skirt, which is created on a bias front, gathered insewn in starburst like pleats, with the fabric then falling amply in front into a cascading bias detail. The rest of the skirt is tight and narrow falling below midcalf. There is a metal zipper and snaps at waist hidden in the folds of the draping.
AGE: original early 1940s, from my late mother's trousseau, custom made.
SIZE: will fit an XS in today's sizes. The measurements are 32/22/32" bust/waist/hip ratio.
The dress is 51" long and it would make a spectacular movie costume, a fashion study piece or a special vintage, semi-antique dress for special occasions for a Lady with unconventional style and the silhouette to fit in:)
FABRIC: lightweight, like rips silk, I am unsure of the fabric content
CONDITION: the dress is in remarkable condition, with no damage whatsoever, intact. No stains or tears. The only thing to mention is that the fabric on the buttons have color bleeding possibly from the buttons underneath, please check pictures. It is not deterring from the beauty and character of this amazing cocktail dress and the buttons can always be changed.
Amazing dress, really. A real museum piece, authentic, rare and in enviable condition.
