One of a kind vintage 80s Pierre Balmain French couture pure silk pochette scarf in sapphire blue, purple and gold, signed in four corners in cameo, finely hand rolled and hemmed edges. Just gorgeous!
The "pochette" scarves (smaller than regular sizes but not as small as a handkerchief) have been resurrected from its over 2000 years old history by the House of Hermes around the 1920s in an attempt to extend its utilitarian use for men (a small square at the chest pocket hence the name pochette=pocket)) to women and making it into a signature little luxury accessory. It appeared more on the fashon scene at the beginning of the 1980s, the era my present scarf dates from.
The 'pochette" for women today is smaller than am large scarf but larger than a handkerchief, just enough to tie it at the neck, wrist, handbag or simply at the neck in a coquetish French style. Wearing it is an art and there are many new ways to wear it in unique ways.
The French Couture Pierre Balmain silk pochette I am now selling, dates from the 1980s it is an original Balmain in typical 80s colors, combining an electric blue and purple background with a gold flames motif. Please note that the colors on my monitor appear a bit too bright due to the flashlight. The original colors are bright enough without being THAT flashy, nice pure colors with no fading.
