Another one of my one of a kind vintage custom made purses from FRANCE.
This time a true vintage 50's genuine Karung snakeskin handbag. The unmistakable pebbled texture of this rare exotic snake is intact! Remarkable for an ages old purse. Glossy, intact scales, with absolutely no wear....now that is vintage worth looking at!
DISCLAIMER This product is vintage and at the time of production (1940s) no endangered species have been used in the manufacturing of it.
TRIVIA
The Karung snake, from the Acrochordidae family, used to live mainly in the tropical waters of Ceylon and Indonesia and it has become a very hot and rare item due to its use to craft high end accessories. The purses and belts created from authentic Karung skins are VERY rare to come by also because of the finesse required to process these thin skins.
Our purse is created from Karung skins, in a French style, with a skin covered metal frame. The purse is hardcase, will never slouch or change its shape. Elegant rectangular shape, rounded bottom, sturdy construction, yet very feminine. Lined in beige faux suede, the purse has three small compartments, one of which closes with a metal zipper, in perfect working order. The compartments are trimmed in gold.
Custom made in France, imported from France.
COLOR: natural medium dark browns, the natural colour of deep water snake. Glossy and perfectly lined.
MATERIAL: genuine Karung snakeskin.
SIZE: 11.5"at the base narrowing to 10" at the frame, by 6" by 2.5" DEEP, 13" STRAP.
CONDITION: MINT exterior, with no damage whatsoever, glossy and intact skins however a bit darkened from age in places.
Hand strap has been completely redone with intact skins and it is only stitched in place but it is sturdy and intact, will not affect wearability at all.
Lining shows signs of wear. There is wear on the suede like lining at the FOLDS of the LINING only (please see lining picture). Minor darkening of the upper part of the lining (soiling? I am not sure), a few small pencil marks in the bottom. It is not dirty, just old.
All the above will not affect your everyday use at all, besides, the exterior is so incredibly well preserved, it might even be worth lining it with a new lining...give it a new life, the little purse has seen well over half a century of life and is still making a statement. I love it and you will too.
